Welcome to Texas

Here at Texas Rural Agencies, we are passionate about our local community! So today I wanted to share a little bit about this great town we call home…

Texas is a small rural town on the Queensland side of the Dumaresq River and home to around one thousand people, including all of us at Texas Rural Agencies.

Texas is abuzz with friendly locals and tourists alike, with many attractions to keep you occupied. The town is fast becoming a small historical precinct, with the Texas Rabbit Works, which was built in 1928 and is the last rabbit processing works remaining in Australia. It is now set up as an interactive experience rich in history and culture that is sure to impress anyone. It is something that needs to be seen to be appreciated and is definitely worth a visit.

Texas is also home to the Texas Heritage Centre & Tobacco Museum, or the Texas Historical Museum, as the locals call it. The museum has numerous buildings to explore all fascinating and rich in history, including an old jail and stocks, mini shearing shed, post office store, a smithy plus many more. It contains relics from the Silverspur Mine and information about Texas Station as well as many historical photos and books written about the people, events and industries of the area.

It’s safe to say that Texas boasts loads of history, but if food is what interests you, then you’ll want to try the Stockman Hotel. The charming brick building is bursting with character and the typical ‘Pub Grub’ is well above average. The grilled salmon is a personal favourite of mine, but it is hard to pass up on a classic Reef & Beef, with a juicy cut of steak cooked to perfection and topped with creamy garlic prawns. The chef is good at what he does and is serving up delicious and quick meals night after night.

If you’re looking for something a little more laid back for lunch, Texas also has cafes, takeaway shops and the local Chinese restaurant, so there is sure to be something to suit everyone’s taste!

If you fancy a spot of shopping, then Texas has a few good places to go. Each with a different range of boutique, affordable furniture, giftware and home decor. You’re sure to find something you like.

As you can see, the town of Texas is a great place to be. You’re sure to fall in love with the peaceful border town as many before you have! So if you’re passing by, make sure you pull in so you can experience all that Texas has to offer!
